Gentleman's Box March 2016 Review

The idea of a monthly subscription box is very interesting and still very new. The market for them has exploded in recent months as well, and there are boxes for every hobby imaginable. My hobby is men’s style and thankfully there are a few different options out there; one of them is Gentleman’s Box. They send you a curated box every month that has a decent number of men’s accessories or grooming items. The items themselves are selected to work with each other or on their own separately. This is the box for March 2016.

The first item my eyes seen when I opened the box are these wooden collar stays, made from walnut, from the company Woodchuck. They came in a small corked bottle and actually have 3 sets inside, a different one for different types of shirt collars. One for the Cut-Away, English Spread, and The Classic.

The next item is one that caught me off guard are actually a pair of sunglasses! These are a pair of aviators, that say they are “Air Force,” but I can’t find that as being a brand or a style. Personally these aren’t for me, I personally prefer Clubmasters. They seem pretty nice, if you like Aviators then you will probably like these. They also come with a microfiber bag to carry them in, a nice touch in my opinion.

My personal favorite item in the box is a cool pocket square from Knots Apparel Co.. It is a baby blue cotton square, with a nautical theme with white anchors and ship wheels. It is a nice casual square, and it is my personal favorite material, it will be a great addition to my collection and I look forward wearing this in a navy sport coat. Also a side note, this company supports “The Joseph Fund.” It is a charity that helps shelter and feed the homeless to try and get them back on their feet. Every purchase of theirs they give 50% of the profits to that charity.

Another item that I am happy to see is a fun pair of socks, and these are from the company Unsimply Stitched. They are a pair of blue, white, red, and black striped socks. They seem to be well made, however they aren’t 100% cotton, they are 80% cotton, 17% polyamide, and 3% elastane, but I think it is a high enough percentage to not get upset about. I like to see these companies including fun socks in the boxes more often so we can more easily break away from the white or black socks that have become the norm.

Finally as far as the physical items are concerned they send a trial tube of Billy Jealousy aftershave. I don’t use after shaves that much, and it is only a trial size, but I will give it a try.

Now that the physical items are taken care of, a lot of times these boxes come with some coupon codes to use with the companies featured in the month’s box. With this one we have a 20% off entire order from Knot’s Apparel Co., and a $20 off coupon for a company called Parsonii. They sell watches and watch straps, and this allows you to save on a box set of a watch and a few different straps.

The most important part of these boxes is the value that they offer, Gentleman’s box costs $25 per month, with discounted options if you pay for more than a one month subscription. This month’s box lists everything at an $87 retail value if you were to buy these items separately. I feel with the items they sent that I would recommend this box. Also as an added value with when you get a subscription to Gentleman’s Box they also give you a free subscription to GQ Magazine.

Also I would like to give a shout out to Logan Tedrow for proofreading my stuff for me! Thanks for everything!
